The small bbe label (Barely Breaking Even) is known for its eclectic an enthusiastically curated catalogue. One of the label’s most popular series has been ‘Disco Love’; all complied by Scottish jock (geddit!) AL KENT, the albums featured plenty of rare but always classy and never cheesy dance tunes. Sequenced by Mr Kent (who took his name from the old Northern soul fave), the albums won support and plaudits right across the soul spectrum.
So, you won’t be surprised that a fourth volume is now available…. ‘Disco Love 4’, subtitled ‘More, More , More Disco and Soul Uncovered’ and with artists of the calibre of Genobia Jeter featured the emphasis is cleanly on the SOUL.
The sometime Mrs Glen Jones contributes a wonderful , gospel-infused ‘Things Got To Get Better’. Other highlights include Skip Mahoaney’s ‘Running Away From Love’ and Barbara Jean English’s optimistic ‘If It Feels Good’. However as the set boasts a generous 20 tracks, everyone will find something to make ’em smile.
