In the summer (remember that?) MF ROBOTS (the pairing of ex Brand New Heavies Jan Kincaid and Dawn Joseph) announced, nice and early, that they were releasing a new album next year. Since then they’ve issued a taster single – the Latin-tinged Happy Song’ which was followed by classy remixes from Kenny Dope, Kaidi Tatham and Daz-I-Kue.
Now the Robots are gearing up for another single – a cut that, I guess, is to be their sort of signature tune… ‘Mother Funkin’ Robots’. It’s a big, big funky sound with a blistering vocal from Dawn Joseph; the fire and passion of which is matched by the brass playing of Ben Treacher (sax) and Jack Birchwood (trumpet). We’re told that ‘Mother Funkin’ Robots’ is the product of a wild jam session that took place in a boiling Brixton rehearsal room sometime in 2019. Wild, funky and organic, the track will be good to go via bbe Records on November 6th – fireworks for the day after Firework Night!
