Here at SJF (the UKs biggest and brightest indie soul site!) we’re delighted to say that we were amongst the first UK media to feature Mancunian soulstress MICA MILLAR. We’re now more than delighted to learn that where we led others are following with Ms. M featuring (at long last) on the cover of some UK soul mags. We’re also mighty pleased that Mica’s career is really taking off. Her ‘Heaven Knows’ album is doing great business and she’s currently enjoying a plethora of national radio support from the likes of Trevor Nelson at BBC Radio 2; she had a slot on Clive Anderson’s ‘Loose Ends’ on BBC Radio 4; her single ‘Preacher Man’ was championed by Craig Charles & Tom Robinson on 6 Music; and there was plenty of support for her album title track ‘Heaven Knows’ on BBC Radio 1 with Victoria Jane and Flashlights on BBC Radio 2’s Good Morning Sunday. Meanwhile in the US her last three singles landed A List slots at Amazing Radio USA.
Keeping the momentum going, Mica will be releasing a further single from ‘Heaven Knows’, this Friday, 26th August. It’s the groove-infused ‘More Than You Give Me’ – a perfect showcase for her soulful voice. Mica explains the song’s message: “Sometimes it takes a new person or situation to make you reflect on a relationship with a new perspective. This song is about gaining that new perspective, reclaiming your power and being unapologetic about it. It’s the moment you realize the relationship isn’t right, you’re worth more and you decide to walk away.”
More exciting news? Well, Mica will be headlining two live shows planned in September. Playing the London’s prestigious Jazz Cafe on Saturday 17th September and then the iconic Albert Hall in Manchester on Sunday 25th September where she’ll perform her new album in full.
