MORE SOULRENDERING…

Back in November we posted on a varied and intriguing Euro-soul album from German band SOULRENDER (above). They hail from Bremen and consist of Tina Kludig – Lead & Backing Vocals; Thulani Masinga – Lead & Backing Vocals; Tim Vollmers – Keyboards; Matthias Behling – Bass; Jürgen Block – Guitar; Stephan Besl – Drums; Ilja Nagel – Percussion/Turntables and Celina Seifried – Backing Vocals.

We learned that Soulrender are 4 times winners of the German Rock & Pop Prize for Best Soul Band! And after listening to their current album, ‘Circles’ we could hear why. The band’s Euro-soul sound is typified by LP’s opening track, ‘Fallin’’ which we said back last autumn reminded us of a lot of the Brand New Heavies’ take on soul. Another track which we highlighted was the catchy ‘Drama Queen’.

Such are the vagaries of the UK soul scene that the ‘Circles’ album is now being touted  by some of our soul tastemakers who are recommending tracks like sombre meander that is ‘Drown You In A Lake’, the poppy ‘Lady in the Shadow’ and  the album title track. I’m guessing that they’re not too keen on ‘Walking On Fire’ – Teutonic rap, if you would!
