DAVID NATHAN, via his soulmusic.com Records, continues to unearth collectable, hard-to-find gems and his set up’s just issued another strong quintet.
First up there’s two from LOOSE ENDS – 84’s ‘A Little Spice’ and ‘So Where Are You’ from ’85. The former offers the original 8 track LP along with7 bonus cuts that include the singles – ‘In The Sky’, We’ve Arrived’, ‘Don’t Hold Back Your Love’ and ‘No Stranger To Darkness’. The latter was the band’s real breakthrough set and features the still classic ‘Hangin’ On A String’ – here you get the original mix and a couple of FRANKIE KNUCKLES’ tweaks on it. Those two mixes come in the CD’s “bonus” section which also features a great “vibes version” of ‘Magic Touch’ featuring ROY AYERS…
… and speaking of the vibraphone maestro – soulmusic.com have also released AYERS’ 1987 LP ‘I’m The One’. And if same era Jazz Funk is your thing, then check out the two new GEORGE DUKE reissues – 1982’s ‘Dream On and 1984’s ‘Rendezvous’. Like all soulmusic.com releases these two come with added bonus cuts, full art work and a concise contextual essay.
