ELBOWED OUT were a little-known mixed race group who worked out of Seattle. Main men in the band were trumpeter SAM CHAMBLISS and guitarist DENIS WILCOX – who also both shared lead vocals. Back in 1978 they issued just two recordings and last year UK label SOUL JUNCTION released them as a single. The two cuts were the catchy ‘Taking A Step’ backed with ‘Girl You Got Magic’.

Soul Junction has now released two previously unissued Elbowed Out songs as a single. They are ‘Things Are Changing’ with ‘Just To Be With You’ on the flip. The A side is a busy, bustling modern soul groove with great vocals and punchy brass that’s kind of half way between Tower Of Power and The Blackbyrds. It’s a great little, mover that’s sure to get feet tapping and heads nodding in the modern room. ‘Just To Be With You’ is a slower groove altogether and has the light feel of EWF’s balladry about it. It’s a very, very subtle grower. Access our archive search engine to find out more about Elbowed Out or go to
