Spanish boutique label SOUL4REAL continue their wonderful trawl through the MOTOWN archive with the release of two more four track ‘From Detroit With Love’ EPs – they are volumes V and VI!
The four track on Volume V are DAVID RUFFIN ANYTHING THAT YOU ASK FOR; BRENDA HOLLOWAY DON´T STAY AWAY; MARVIN GAYE YOU’RE THE ONE and THE FOUR TOPS JUST YOUR LOVE
Volume VI delivers GLADYS KNIGHT & THE PIPS SHOW ME THE WAY; MARTHA REEVES & THE VANDELLAS THIS IS THE LOVE (I´VE BEEN WAITING FOR); THE TEMPTATIONS SINCE I DON´T HAVE YOU and BLINKY & EDWIN STARR NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP.
All track were recorded in the 60s – Motown’s Golden Age, if you would and none were ever released at the time. So, rightly, the sleeve notes suggest that all the 8 songs are “originally unreleased”. Some of the cuts – notably the Pips’ track and Brenda Hollway’s gorgeous ‘Don’t Stay Away’ have appeared on CD compilations and/or been made available digitally, but, yes, this is the first time for all 8 tracks to be out on vinyl, making this a real treat for Motown collectors.
