Earlier this year we recommended a new, old school soul outing ‘What Am I Supposed To Do?’ from a little known US singer simply called MASTA. The Preston Glass production had a simple kind of charm and now Masta follows it up with more of same old fashioned charm. His new single is the simple, unpretentious ‘I Never Knew’.
The cut is easy-on-the-ear and Masta (who we’re told is always working… the club and cruise circuit as well as jingles and musical theatre etc) has a great, old-fashioned soul voice… tough and rough but with a tender edge… sort of mid-way between David Ruffin and Ali Ollie Woodson.
