April witnesses two more black music-oriented compilations from the Demon Music Group’s Music Club Deluxe imprint. For aficionados of classic soul, there’s a fabulous new collection devoted to the Atlantic recordings of legendary vocal group, THE DRIFTERS, and their charismatic frontman-turned-solo star, BEN E. KING. It’s simply called ‘Their Greatest Hits‘ and features 50 cuts spread over 2 CDs; 35 come from The Drifters (including ‘Under The Boardwalk,’ ‘Up On The Roof’ and ‘On Broadway’) while Ben E. King is represented by 15 tracks, featuring the anthemic ‘Stand By Me’ and ‘Spanish Harlem.’
Devotees of ’80s house/techno music will find much to savour on a 31-track/2-CD collection devoted to INNER CITY, the Detroit-based duo comprising producer Kevin Saunderson and soulful chanteuse Paris Grey. ‘Big Fun – Big Hits!‘ includes the duo’s global chart smashes ‘Good Life,’ ‘Big Fun,’ ‘Paradise,’ and their 1990 revamp of Stephanie Mills’ ‘Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin’.’
Retailing at around £5.00, both CDs represent excellent value for money and are in shops now.
