
We’ve learned that acclaimed soulful house vocalist, MICHAEL WATFORD, has died. The singer’s son Solomon Watford announced the news on Sunday, 28th January via Facebook when he posted: “On Friday Jan 26th, my father Michael Watford passed away. We want to thank everyone and including the House music community who has contacted me and my family during this difficult time. Lastly, I will be providing all funeral information and repast details this week. Thank you All!!!” Cause of death was not disclosed though it appears he had been in poor health for some time. In December 2023, New York DJ Lenny Fontana posted that Watford was in hospice care.
Born in Virginia bur raised in New Jersey, Watford learned his craft in the Church; then working with people like Masters At Work, Kerri Chandler and En Vogue, he became an integral part of the early Jersey house scene. His best known solo outings are ‘Holdin’On’ and ‘So Into You’ which earned the No. 1 single spot on the Billboard dance charts in 1994. The singer also collaborated with people like Barbara Tucker, Kerri Chandler, Robert Owens, Todd Terry, Pete Tong , Roger Sanchez and Little Louie Vega.
