The second single by the hotly-tipped MF ROBOTs – formed last year by erstwhile Brand New Heavies’ drummer/singer/songwriter JAN KINCAID with honey-voiced singer DAWN JOSEPH – is due to drop on April 14th. It’s called ‘Come On With The Good Thing’ and is a superb, mid-tempo floor filler that’s driven by a heavy but irrestible bass groove and percolating percussion lines. Channelling the retro spirit of Quincy Jones’ productions circa Michael Jackson’s ‘Off The Wall’ album, the track features super-soulful vocals from Dawn Joseph and an addictive harmonised anthem-like chorus.
It’s the follow-up to the duo’s debut single, the more urgent ‘The Night Is Calling,’ released last month via the Kobalt imprint (see earlier news stories). Both tracks will appear on MF ROBOTS as yet untutled debut long player, due on September 22nd.
MF ROBOTS are due to make their debut gig next month – Saturday April 29th – at CLF Art Cafe/The Bussey Building as part of ‘The Funk Soul & Rare Groove Review’s’ 4-year anniversary party.
