ME AND MS JONES…

It was way back last August when the ever-soulful SHIRLEY JONES told us she was preparing the release of a new album, ‘In Loving Memory’. She told us that the album would be a heart-felt  tribute to her late sisters Brenda and Valerie. With Shirley, of course, they were revered as The JONES GIRLS whose hits numbered ‘You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else’, ‘I Just Love the Man’, and the evergreen ‘Nights Over Egypt’.

To flag up the August announcement Shirley released a single, a searing, emotional ballad, ‘When You Love Somebody’. Since  then, not a lot. Now, we’re reliably informed that the long player – ‘Reflections: In Loving Memory’  will finally be with us this Friday, 16th February. ‘When You Love Somebody’ is featured of course along with one of the Jones Girls’ “lost” Philly classics, ‘Baby Don’t Go Yet’ which has only  ever had a limited release – most notably on an Expansion  collectors’ single, That track is being flagged up as the LP’s next single. The album, by the way, ends with an emotional ‘Reflections’ making  the set a must not just for fans of the group and Philly connoisseurs  but for all true soul collectors!
