ASHTON JONES is a hotly touted UK soul man who fronts the imaginatively named THE ASHTON JONES PROJECT. His PR people and his socials don’t give us much to go on save that he counts his major influences as James Brown, Earth Wind & Fire, Rick James and Prince. The band, we’re told, are seasoned veterans who’ve played with people like Beverley Knight, Joss Stone and Pee Wee Ellis and the ensemble has toured with Shalamar and Incognito.
The team has just launched their debut EP on which the music ranges from the placid and serene instrumental opener, ‘Prelude’ to the sparse, gritty, funk workout that is ‘Good Things Guaranteed’ on which Mr Jones shows he owns a great set of classic soul pipes!
