For her latest single release Detroit soul and jazz singer KATHY KOSINS dips into her 2018 album, ‘Uncovered Soul’ to offer a tribute to Curtis Mayfield via her cover of his ‘Ms Martha’. Fans of the Gentle Genius will know that the song first appeared on his ‘New World Order’ album and Ms K delivered her 2018 version with total respect.
Now Kathy revisits the song, treating the classic with the same respect. It’s loose and sparse and incudes a new, short but pointed monologue… “let nothing but beautiful things be accepted by your mind…invest yourself in the now”. Amen!
Kathy sees the song as a message of hope in the face of oppression and struggle and, of course, as a wonderful tribute to sorely missed Curtis Mayfield. Out now.
