A month or so ago MARCUS MALONE and the MOTOR CITY HUSTLERS (that’s essentially Detroit music legend, Marcus Malone and Dan Smith of The Noisettes) entertained us with their old school Stax influenced long player ‘Interstate 75’. The album was an unashamed tribute to Southern soul’s golden age and the set’s title track won plenty of attention when it was released as a single.
Now that very tune reappears in a new mix … the No’West Remix. In truth to these old ears this new mix isn’t a lot different to the original. There is a new, big party exhortation at the start and maybe things are a little tighter and tougher and the Hammond B3 is a little more “up” in the mix. Wisely, the No’West team highlight the original bass line (the one that was lifted straight out of ‘In The Midnight Hour’) while Mr Malone’s vocals are as “for real” as ever!
