The magnificent WILL DOWNING is rightly known as the “The Prince of Sophisticated Soul” but over the last few months some have dubbed him “the King of Interpretations” as he’s released some wonderful covers – his most recent being a lovely take on Aswad’s ‘Don’t Turn Around’.
For his latest single big Will has chosen to deliver another cover – a warm and heartfelt version of Junior’s 1982 hit ‘Mama Used To Say’. Mr. D says his rendition is a tribute to mamas everywhere and as thank you to them for “sharing their sage advice to protect, encourage and grow their boys to men”.
Will slows the familiar tune right down in his own unique fashion; it’s warm and soulful and features his(?) mum right at the end. This lovely cover is made more magical by the crystalline keyboard of MARCUS JOHNSON.
We believe that this ‘Mama Used To Say’ is the lead single from Will’s upcoming album, ‘Luscious’.
