KELLY & KYLE sound like a couple of characters from a defunct Aussie soap don’t they! However, the pair are actually a contemporary soul/R&B outfit consisting of Cambodian-born twins raised just north of Seattle up in rugged Whidbey Island, Washington state.
They’ve just debuted with a proper summery single, ‘Lovely’. It’s a burbling, bubbling slice of sunshine optimism that offers a Bootsy bassline, a catchy melody, clever rhyming and retro vocoders… think, maybe, Pharell mashed up with Silk Sonic!
For sure this ‘Lovely’ isn’t classic soul and purists will probably give it a wide berth but it’s a real cheer you up sound and there’s nothing wrong with that.
