With Christmas beckoning, the big labels are lining up their stocking filler retrospectives and top of this year’s soul list will be another LUTHER VANDROSS greatest hits set (yes, we know, another one!). This one though should prove to be a little different since it features a brand new track –well, not brand new, obviously, but a previously unreleased Luther performance and for its inclusion we should be truly thankful.
The tune is called ‘Love It Love It’ and was recorded in 1994 during the sessions for the ‘Never Let Me Go’ album. Luther co-penned it with Hubert Eaves III (who’s also tweaked the tune a little) and soul connoisseurs should be familiar with it via Phil Perry’s version (see Phil’s ‘Pure Pleasure’ LP). Luther’s original is a tad slower than Phil’s and, clearly, a little less polished. Business insiders are hoping that the tune’s discovery will yield more “lost Luther treasures”… those Cotillion albums anyone?
