Veteran keyboard player LONNIE LISTON SMITH (he’s 82, by the way) released his last album , ‘Transformation’ in 1998. Now iconic label Jazz Is Dead have announced that the keyboardist is making a return with a new long player ‘Lonnie Liston Smith JID017’ due April 28th. Label bosses Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammed suggest that the album (for which they’ve enshrined many of Smith’s musical traits) will be a “triumphant celebration of love’s power to heal”.
To flag up the album Jazz Is Dead is releasing a single tomorrow March 3rd. It’s a loose, spaced-out meander, ‘Cosmic Changes’ which features the sultry vocals of frequent Jazz is Dead collaborator Loren Oden. The track indeed does enshrine many of the traits for which Liston Smith is known… cosmic, for sure!
