ACE RECORDS’ excellent series that chronicles the groundbreaking work of the LONDON AMERICAN label has reached 1956. The new 28 tracker cherry picks the very best of the London label’s output for that seminal year and for black music collectors it contains plenty of classics and rarer gems.

Amongst the selected tracks there’s LITTLE RICHARD’S ‘Rip It Up’, THE DRIFTERS’ ‘Soldier Of Fortune’, JOE TURNER’S ‘The Chicken And The Hawk’, CHUCK BERRY’S ‘Down Bound Train’, SMILEY LEWIS’ ‘One Night’, CLYDE McPHATTER’S ‘Seven Days’ and FATS DOMINO’S ‘When My Dream Boat Comes Home’. There’s also plenty of great atmospheric mid 50s pop from people like JIM REEVES, ANDY WILLIAMS, JULIE LONDON and PAT BOONE.
