‘THE LONDON SOUND’ is a long running series of instrumental albums from Cala Records. Their most popular releases have featured large brass ensembles with players drawn from the cream of the London session scene. To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Cala have just released two albums which collect together all the very best tunes from those much-loved brass sets.
First up is ‘Hot Brass’ which features up tempo readings of tunes like ‘Caravan’ and ‘Mambo Caliente’ along with a great version of ‘Layla’. The second compilation offers a little more reflection. ‘Cool Brass’ features 14 tracks that range from the Beatles’ ‘Penny Lane’ to Errol Garner’s ‘Misty’.
