Latest release from Hope Streer records is an insidious, neo-soul groove from ZRETRO (pronounced Zee-Retro). Essentially a Melbourne-based duo, they are vocalist Zima and producer 2nd Thought and their track ‘Superpower’ clearly takes the classic D’Angelo sound as its template – down-tempo, head-nodding, jazzy undertow… quite ethereal.
Vocalist Zima says: “This song represents the fire and the passion I enter my interactions with and how I knew love when I was young.” – but the track is more about the vibe than the sentiments. Out now via Hope Street Records.
