London-based blue-eyed soul man DANNY TOEMAN has been on the scene for a while now without quite making the premier league. A bit of a mystery really. You see our Dan has released a slew of fab soul singles – things like his 2014 double A sided single – ‘That Sinking Feeling’/’Layin’ It On The Line’ and 2019’s ‘She’s Got Something About Her’ and ‘Give It All Up (Mr. Showtime)’.
2022 so far, though, has been good to Danny. His April single, ‘Shake The Blues’ was playlisted on Radio 2. His live shows have been sell-out affairs and he’s supported someone called Diana Ross on one of her rare UK shows!
Now consolidating all, that our man is gearing up to release a lovely new single, ‘When The Lights Go Down’. His people tell us the song’s inspiration was the O’Jays’ Philly recordings and there is certainly an Eddie Levert grit and gruffness about Danny’s vocals while the production pays homage to the sounds of Sigma with the addition of an Ernie Isley style guitar solo! The song has long been a mainstay of Dan’s live shows, so it was a no-brainer to record it.
Adding to the optimism around the track is the fact that it’s being released on specialist label LRK Records whose team know what soul and soul promotion is all about! ‘When The Lights Go Down’ will be released as a digital single on 19th August via all the usual portals but a soulful song like this demands a vinyl release and LRK are only too pleased to oblige. A limited edition 7” will be available from 23rd September. Demand is sure to be massive, so you can pre-order from 19th August via https://lrkrecords.bandcamp.com/
The clever retro cover (above) (tongue in cheek, I hope or the woke brigade will be on the march!) gives you the flavour of the song and the era the music evokes … Danny Toeman ‘When The Lights Go Down’ – recommended!
