‘Lightning Drunk’ is a new tune winning plenty of plaudits Stateside and easy to hear why. It’s a catchy, soulful groove that grows and grows with each play.The band behind the beats is the (maybe?) oddly named OH HE DEAD (below) and the captivating vocal comes courtesy of CJ Johnson – a lady with a big, classic soulful voice. And with a voice like hers it’s odd to learn that she started her pro music career in 2015 in an acoustic folk duo with Andy Valenti. However, inspired by listening to old soul – specifically EWF, C J added three new players (lead guitarist Alex “Solo Sals” Salser, drummer Adam Ashforth, and keyboardist Piano Whitman) and Oh He Dead was born.
They debuted in 2019 with a well-received eponymous collection and now the gang is gearing up to release a second long player – ‘Pretty’, due September 15th. In the meantime, enjoy ‘Lightning Drunk’ – where the musical message is all about the electric charge that real love delivers. On the evidence of ‘Lighting Drunk’ (which is out now), ‘Pretty’ promises to be pretty good!
