MATT COOPER is a busy bee! Amongst his many and varied commitments he’s been musical director of Incognito and collaborated on the Str4ta project with Incognito’s Bluey. He’s also worked regularly with Gilles Peterson and pursues his own career as Outside and as Outside, Matt is preparing the release of a new album, ‘Almost Out’. Matt also works with THE DESCENDANTS (told you he was a busy bee!). The band is Matt alongside , Jeff Cooper (his dad and music business veteran), and Johnny Primed and they’re gearing up to release some new music in the form of the track ‘Telling Lies’. It’s a powerful and intriguing sound fronted by committed vocal from MAZEN BEDWEI. It’s a big production – lush piano melodies and string hooks, all underpinned by a tighter than tight breakbeat. The message in the music is about the heartbreak that comes after deceit (the clue is in the title) but it’s the music that sweeps you away.
‘Telling Lies’ is released via F*CLR Records and comes in its original format alongside mixes from the North Street West crew (Ashley Beedle, Darren Morris and Jo Wallace) who cleverly invoke the spirit of Charles Stepney and Laroye & Dan Tenor City who bring an upbeat New York House vibe with a dub aimed squarely at the dance floor. There are the usual instrumentals too.
