Philly soul man ASHLEY SCOTT is a favourite of this web site. Over the last few years he’s released a string of lovely, sophisticated contemporary soul cuts like ‘Words’, ‘Dance The Night Away’ and ‘Don’t Throw Our Love Away’- what we like to call proper grown up soul music!
Hardly surprising that our Ashley turns in great performances time after time – he has some pedigree! He’s the nephew of the Three Degrees’ Helen Scott and he studied at Howard University under tutors like Grady Tate and Webster Lewis! He was also a member of the famed Howard University Gospel Choir and since graduating, he’s shared stages with people like Jean Carn, Vivian Green, Bilal, Marcus Johnson and Take 6. By the way he’s also worked on Will Downing’s business team!
If you’re not yet acquainted with Mr Scott (where you been by the way?) grab a listen to his latest single – a sweet and sincere Philly flavoured romantic groove, ‘Together’. Lush and quite lovely, it bears many of the hallmarks of his old mentor, Will Downing – but it’s very much an Ashley Scott tune! He co-wrote and co-produced it with guitarist Stan Davis Jr. while the sweeping horn and string arrangements come courtesy of Dennis “Doc” Williams (long-time musical director for the O”Jays).
Ashley’s ‘Together’ would make a great Valentines while US soul tastemakers are predicting it to be one of 2022’s big wedding tunes. It’s released February 11th via Ashley’s own Soulful Sounds International Records. Recommended!
