GEORGE ANDERSON is the bass player with smooth jazz veterans Shakatak but he also enjoys his own solo career. Remember his versions of George Duke’s ‘Brazilian Love Affair’ and Luther Vandross’ ‘Never Too Much’ and let’s not forget his ‘Back In The Day’ from his ‘Expressions’ long player which became a modern soul favourite.
More recently (November to be precise) he hit us with ‘Let’s Celebrate Life’ – a jazzy, funky, soulful workout that featured vocalist Joyce San Mateo – a regular collaborator with Tom Browne. Little wonder the cut had a feel of ‘Funkin’ For Jamaica’. And there’s even more of that flavour on a new “Retro” mix of the tune which has just become available. Tough and feisty, big and brash, George’s bass booms in Marcus Miller style while Joyce’s vocal takes no prisoners.
Maybe we didn’t have a lot to celebrate in 2020… but at least we made it to the end! Maybe we should get in step with George and Joyce and ‘Celebrate Life’.
