Though he’s not a household name in UK soul circles, singer/songwriter RICK CLARKE has an enviable CV. He’s been around the scene for over 30 years and worked with people like Jazzie B, James Brown, Betty Wright, CeCe Penniston, Omar and Incognito. He also has numerous hit writing credits – including Shirley Jones’ ‘I’m Yours Tonight’.
On Friday 21st June, Rick will be releasing a new single of his own. The date is no coincidence… we’re told that it’s officially the first day of real summertime, and Rick’s tune – ‘Friends’ –couldn’t be more summery. You know that you’re listening to a proper summer groove as soon as the intro kicks in – it’s a sample from Lou Rawls’ ‘You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine’. Do you know anyone who doesn’t love that riff? And Mr C uses it to great effect through the song’s four sweet minutes. Helping Rick deliver by the way is another long time collaborator, Don E.
Many top soul taste makers are tipping ‘Friends’ to be THE big summer tune… can’t argue with them!
