Way back in 1982 (wow!) EVELYN “CHAMPAGNE” KING’S timeless classic, ‘Love Come Down’ ignited dance floors everywhere! The Kashif-penned song was the focus cut on Ms K’s ‘Get Loose’ LP and when released as a single it reached number 1 on what was then called the Billboard Black Singles and Hot Dance Charts. Pop-wise it hit number 17 on the US chart and went on to crash music charts world-wide. More importantly, this effervescent cut still has the power to fill floors – try not to smile and move when that familiar intro kicks in! Little wonder the song’s been covered countless times – notably by Barry Biggs, the Saturdays and Alison Limerick. Here, though the old adage is bob on – the original is still the greatest… or is it?
Now, here’s the thing, soulful house don, DJ SPEN (with a little help from fellow producer EZEL) has been working on the song in his own magical way – but to keep things right and proper he’s got dear Evelyn back into the studio to revocalize it!
The trio offer a fresh a perspective – but they deliver all the same infectious energy and emotion of that 80’s original. Evelyn’s voice is as powerful as ever and to put it in a nutshell, this 2024 iteration of the classic manages to be both nostalgic and modern! And with the big party season beckoning watch this one fill floors just like the original!
