Evelyn “Champagne” King’s 1982 hit ‘Love Come Down’ is a soul/disco staple still capable of packing dance floors. It’s so damn familiar and catchy, it takes a very brave artist to cover it but that’s exactly what Philly soulstress MARY HARRIS had done for her latest single.
This new ‘Love Come Down’ (produced by Philly luminary Butch Ingram) is a tad slower and lacks a little of the urgent energy of the original. That familiar bass line is still in there tough and Ms Harris’ delivery is a little more intense (soulful?) than Ms King’s original carefree warbling. This “new” ‘Love Come Down’ is good to go now via Society Hill Records.
