ANÉ (pronounced Ah-nay) is a US soul/jazz singer. Originally from New Jersey, she currently works out of Las Vegas. For a while she was part of an incarnation of the Shirelles while she’s shared stages with people like Aretha Franklin, Peabo Bryson, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Kenny G, Tony Bennett, Chuck Berry, Lesley Gore and Neil Sedaka.
She tells us that the name “Ané” means “beautiful lady with a song” and on the evidence of her latest album, the description seems more than appropriate. The set’s called ‘Learning To Love Myself’ and the overall sound is laid-back, smooth, sophisticated soul , very much in the Anita Baker mould. The album’s title track is particularly strong while the sweet and stately single ‘If I’d Only Known’ proves that Ané is a smooth soul contender… little wonder that ‘Learning To Love Myself’ is starting to make waves stateside.
