Those cool masters of the chill out lounge groove, KINOBE, are back with a fine follow-up release to May’s much-lauded ‘Firebird’ EP. Comprising Julius Walters, Chuck Norman and vocalist, Rich Hale, the trio unleash another four-track EP, ‘Though It Was You,’ (the second of three scheduled for this year), due to be released via Absolute on July 14th.
The opening cut, ‘Thought It Was You,’ is a driving piece with an infectious chorus propelled by acoustic guitar and fronted by Rich Hale’s soulful, declamatory pipes. In acute contrast, the more grandiose ‘Sun Ray’ – whose epic arrangement features a choir – is an atmospheric instrumental characterised by a widescreen cinematic vibe. Its groove is blissfully intoxicating. Similarly evocative is ‘Summer Rain,’ featuring the ethereal vocals of Lucy Chapman. The EP concludes with a second instrumental, ‘Watch The Skies,’ where opulent orchestral strings and mellow synth lines glide over a chugging backbeat.
KINOBE will issue another EP later this year and there’s also a full album and a tour in the pipeline.
