Last year the Monophonics’ main man KELLY FINNIGAN released an exclusive, ”solo” cassette mixtape, ‘From Me To You’. Demand for the music (and business opportunities) meant that the label (Colemine) released some of the key tracks – digitally and on vinyl. Most notable was the classy instrumental – ‘Thom’s Hartbreak’ – a heartfelt (see what we did there!!!) to two of Kelly’s heroes and inspirations, Thom Bell and William Hart!
There’s a distinctive Philly flavour on the newest track from that mixtape to get a standalone release. It’s a sweet and gentle ballad, ‘My Love Is For You’. Again there’s no doubting Kelly’s respect for Thom Bell and the whole classic Philly thing. Though, I sense a hint of Bob Markley’s ‘I Don’t Want To Wait In Vain’ about it too!
Right now, it’s only available as a stream but we believe there’s vinyl in the pipeline which will offer another gorgeous Finnigan ballad on the flip – ‘Leave You Alone’, which, we’re told, was inspired by the soul of Bettye Swann… nuff said! This one’s been around digitally for a while but it will be good to have it on 45! The label, as we said, is Colemine!
