KELLY FINNIGAN ON VINYL…

Serious vinyl collectors need to be aware that COLEMINE RECORDS are preparing the release of a sweet and lovely 7” on soul multi-tasker, KELLY FINNIGAN.

You’ll know that Kelly, both with the Monophonics and out on his own, has a penchant for old school soul; you might also know that last year he issued one of those new fangled cassette mixtapes! The cut that grabbed the attention was the delightful, honeyed ballad, ‘Leave You Alone’. It’s was a romantic affair but despite Kelly’s status, the song related a love story  from the female perspective! The Colemine team tell us that the inspiration behind  the song was the sounds of the formidable Bettye Swann and if that doesn’t recommend it to you I don’t know what would! Little wonder it wins A side status on the new disc!

The upcoming 45’s flip is a classy instrumental – ‘Thom’s Hartbreak’ (yes, that’s the spelling – it’ll be clear later!). Mr F has written this lush tune as thank you letter to two of his heroes and inspirations, Thom Bell and William Hart – hence the title! On the track Kelly plays piano and vibraphone but the lead melody is taken by Alex Baky’s flute which echoes the sweet falsetto of Delfonics’ main man William Hart. The whole thing (shades  of ‘La La La La Means I Love You’) is a lovely homage to one of classic soul’s great cornerstones.

This unmissable vinyl will be good to go at the end of May, but check out the Colemine site for pre-orders! Recommended!
