KEJAMMIN’!

KEJAM (pronounced Key Jam) is the alter ego of UK soul entrepreneur Dee Majek. Dee won’t mind admitting that he’s been on the scene as long as most – promoting in the 70s (Dee worked on Luther’s legendary Cotillion long player), brokering the release of many fine US indie release in the UK (remember Chanel’s ‘My Life’?) and issuing his own mighty catchy soul sides.

Kejam is his latest project and last year several Kejam groove-based instrumentals made waves on the circuit…. tunes in question being the catchy ‘Dystopia’, ‘Gravity’ and Radian’.

Right now Dee is putting the finishing touches to an album. To be called ‘Calmer’, the set will feature guest vocals from Natasha Watts, Faye B, Lisa Taylor and the aforementioned Chanel. The album is being heralded by a just-released double A side single – ‘Kejam Theme (Lorrain)’ and ‘Hi 5 (Takin’ Me Higher)’ and both are already winning plays from discerning soul radio jocks and modern soul spinners.

‘Kejam Theme’ is particularly strong. It’s a great 80s throwback… ‘Love Town’ style bass line, fat chords, catchy Fender, tinkling piano and committed vocal from Lisa Taylor (pictured below). Yes, it’s more a groove than a proper song but it’s captivatingly infectious. Lisa’s on vocals on the faster ‘Hi 5’ too and again the busy beater will get feet tapping and heads nodding. Diligent internet search will give you access to both tunes.

Hawaiian-born Lisa, by the way, will be familiar to indie collectors via her ‘Let Love Shine’ album. And as well as collaborating with Kejam, she’s also currently involved with Japanese house producer Hideo Kobayashi and fronting a band called Blyndsite. Her solo EP, ‘Intuition’ is set for release later in the year. Find out more @ www.lltmusic.com
