MAYFIELD is a nine piece soul band that works the South of England. We don’t know for sure but maybe they take their inspiration (and certainly their name) from a certain Chicago soul legend. What we know for sure is that in joint lead singers, Gloria Miller and Marlene Hill they have two committed soul vocalists.
The band has just released their second album, the follow up to their acclaimed 2013 set, ‘Tempo Of Your Soul’. The new long player is called ‘Keep On (The Soul Side)’ and the sound they purvey on the 10 tracker is a dramatic, vigorous take on Brit soul and funk. Standouts are the melodic dancer ‘Crazy’ and the sweet ballad ‘Lean Into The Love’.
Mayfield, though, are much more than a band. A proper collective, they operate their own studio in Portsmouth and the Mayfield musicians often work as a studio band supporting artists who use their studio complex and naturally they have their own label…. the aptly name Mayfield Records.
