Hard to believe, but UK soul master GEORGIE B (George Bromfield) has been cranking out his take on classic soul and funk for more years than he cares to remember – sometimes with his faithful Groove Association and sometimes on his tod! However long before that, dare we mention it, Georgie was the singer/drummer in band called Second Image. He debuted with them in 1979 (photo below!!!) – more of that later!
Right now our George is celebrating his more current work by releasing a compilation album featuring 10 of his best jazz funk cuts, selected from 6 studio albums released between 2012 – 2023. All the tracks have been remastered and the focus cuts seem to be ‘It Doesn’t Really Matter’, ‘Here We Go Again’ and ‘Jazz Funk Heaven’ which sort of sums up the music!
Now back to Second Image. The new album, titled ‘Georgie B Presents the Jazz funk Collection’ delivers two very special bonus tracks from the Second Image era – ‘Sambolic’ and ‘Cool Breeze’ . The former, a classic slice of Brit funk, was a 1982 B side while the latter was first issued a year earlier. Now remastered, they sound totally contemporary!
