One of this year’s most intriguing (and successful) singles has been ‘Can’t Beat The Weekend’ from a UK artist who goes by the name B.K.W.H – the alter ego of vocalist Beckwith whose biggest hit was ‘Everyday’. It seems that that song was the man’s third hit which drew praise from DJ Soulchild who said it was a great achievement but that Mr B would never “beat the Weekend” – a reference to Canadian singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, who’s enjoyed countless #1 hits across genres under his “Weekend” guise! Smarting from the remark, Beckwith penned ‘Can’t Beat The Weekend’ as a riposte to the nay sayers – and the cut shot straight up the charts beating The Weekend and everyone else for that matter – reaching the Number 1 spot on the iTunes Chart!
If you want to keep on keeping on beating the Weekend, B.K.W.H and his team have just released a cornucopia of mixes on the track – 7 in fact! The mixes cover all bases on the contemporary soul and R&B spectrum and include three from Jimmy Anthony, Beckwith’s own “ summer” mix ( a bit late there, mate) and, ironically given the song’s history, a tweak from DJ Soulchild himself!
