THE HOUSE GOSPEL CHOIR is a London-based vocal group which debuted in 2014 at the Glastonbury Festival. Their creative producer and lead vocalist is NATALIE MADDIX; with the choir, she endeavours to combine House and Gospel (the clue’s in the name!) in a soulful, uplifting manner.
Just last month we enthused about their latest single – ‘You’, a soul stirring slice of modern gospel with shades of the Sounds of Blackness. At the time we complained that the track was just too short – a meagre (but lovely) two and half minutes!
Well someone’s listening, because the Choir have just released a 6 track ‘You’ EP which contains three new mixes of the song, including a welcome “extended” mix!
This one’s recommended as is the group’s upcoming second LP, ‘LOVE IS THE MESSAGE’, which carries HGC’s core philosophy of joy, peace and unity. It’s out on 9th August and will feature covers of three classics; ‘Promised Land’, one of house music’s most legendary tracks in collaboration with original creator Joe Smooth, the Sounds of Blackness’s 1991 essential ‘Optimistic’ with Beverley Knight lending her powerful, soulful vocals, and the 1995 chart-topper ‘Dreamer’ with original artist Janice Robinson of Livin’ Joy. The remainder of the album comprises original material of soulful house-flavoured, gospel-inspired cuts.
