I know plenty of soul fans who have a soft spot for English-born, Aussie-raised singer-songwriter DAISY HICKS. I think it goes way back to 2000 (wow!) when Ms H released her delightful version of Jackie Wilson’s ‘Sweetest Feeling’. Since then she’s regularly produced the goods… things like ‘When I’m Gone’ and ‘I Chose You’.
Right now she’s readying a new EP, from which the title track – ‘Close To You’ is good to go. No, it’s not the famous Burt Bacharach song; rather, it’s a new one… a collaboration between Daisy and Swedish muso Anders Lundström and the rather special single mix comes courtesy of reliable soul man about town Sir Piers. In their “Curious” mix, they’ve created a bassy, relentless modern soul groove with some beautiful keyboard fills which enhance Ms Hicks’ sweet vocals. We believe that it’s available to download/stream right now and if you’re that way inclined, there’s also a “Stripped” down mix… both SJF recommended!
