bbe Records in conjunction with London Record store, If Music have an unusual vinyl compilation lined up for February release – ‘If Music Presents You Need This; Klinkhamer Records’. The concise 6 tracker is a sort of tribute to famous Dutch Records shop Klinkhamer Records. The shop is in the city of Groningen and it opened in 2000 as an offshoot of the already-established ‘Klinkhamer Antiek en Curiosa’ shop. Having made a success of the record trade, Michel Veenstra and his brother Stephan purchased the business from founder Martin Klinkhamer in 2005. “We kept the name” says Michel “since we both loved it, and it was already well-known in our town.” The shop has gone from strength to strength earning a reputation for specialising in the rare, the ultra rare and the eclectic and esoteric and the new album reflects all that.
The LP features mostly cuts from the late 70s and early to mid 80s, ‘An Introduction To… Klinkhamer Records’ explores what the shop’s PR people call ‘holy grail’ records, mainly from across Holland, but also from Chicago and Italy across the jazz, blues and gospel genres. Soul and funk fans will be delighted by ‘Don’t Let Love’ from the West Side Oasis Band while Philly collectors might be surprised by the Eddie Holman inclusion, ‘Holy Ghost’. The track comes from a rare 1984 album entitled ‘United’. Here Eddie, an ordained minister remember, bills himself as The Reverend Eddie Holman and the track which features top Philly players like Ron Baker is a remarkable 7 minute gospel workout!
If Music Presents You Need This; Klinkhamer Records’. Is released on bbe Records on 25th February … vinyl only!
