Last August gospel reared soulstress CANDACE WOODSON treated us to a wonderful album ‘Perfect’. The long player was named for one of the set’s key cuts – a version of Valerie Simpson’s ‘(Trying To Be) Perfect’. The ballad was a winner – with lyrics that are so relevant today. Yes, the pressure that society, peers, partners and social media (especially Instagram!) put on us to be “perfect”.
Candace treated the ballad with commitment and respect and the good news is that the lovely song is back with us in a splendid new remix from ever-busy NIGEL LOWIS (see our last posting).
Nigel and Candace have worked together before (notably on ‘Midas Touch’) and on this “new” ‘Perfect’ there is obvious mutual chemistry . Here the tempo is lifted to a sophisticated and steady dance groove (not at all frantic) and, with NL at the controls, you can expect plenty of his Philly-inspired flourishes. The passionate vocal is kept well up in the mix and the whole thing is really quite lovely… “perfect” even! It’s out 24th June and comes recommended!
