JEAN FRAIS is a music producer from Peckham, London who was introduced to soul via his jazz pianist father who wowed him with records from people like Earth, Wind and Fire, Tom Browne, Michael Jackson, James Brown, Alexander O’Neal, Kool and the Gang, Parliament and Cameo. As young Jean grew up he broadened his tastes into hip-hop, neo soul, disco and electro soul and all those myriad influences can be heard on young Jean’s latest EP.
The four tracker is heavy and synth driven with the highlight being the edgy break up song ‘Free From Ya’. Most poignant cut is the driving ‘Catch Your Eye’ which was written by Jean’s pianist dad and he recorded it himself in the 90s. Jean gives the tune a thoroughly contemporary makeover, though there’s some real old school sax topping it all off.
