JUST DEMOS…

We first came across California music maker, REVEREND BARON in 2022 via his Karma Chief/ Colemine LP, ‘From Anywhere’. We learned that the good Rev was the music making alter ego of  Danny Garcia – a sometime California skateboard star!

The music on the album was eclectic and random – melodic ramblings really and, as we said then, for sure, it wasn’t soul  but the 10 tracker delivered  an enigmatic charm and there was a blue-eyed soul feel to some of the tracks especially the lithe ‘It’s My Turn (To Cry, Cry, Cry’).

If that’s your boat floater, you may want to investigate Mr G’s new offering – ‘Some Demos’. This is a beguiling 8 track collection of, well yes, demos. The PR team tell us that the set “gives us a glimpse into the  creative process with a handful of intimate recording, wandering, as it does, through an anthology of unreleased tunes and new iterations of songs from Reverend’s previously released LPs”.

Essentially these “demos” deliver (via vocals and  a nylon-stringed acoustic guitar) a sunny West coast sound with the exception being the sombre ‘A Brother’s Song,’ an introspective one-sided conversation with a man behind bars. Interesting and intriguing.
