MR BONGO RECORDS are preparing a new compilation for October release. It’ a second volume of ‘With Love’ – which, we’re told, is to be “another glorious, deep dive into the world of rare soul… 15 tracks of independently released music, created by magnificent artists with stories to tell and primed for rediscovery “
While we wait to see if the set lives up the hype (we’re sure it will) we can enjoy a single from the album as a taster – it’s a big, brash cover of Stevie Wonder’s ‘As’ from a band known as The Family Tree. Anoraks might know that the band were led by Julius Brockington who adds a gospel feel to the track whilst keeping it aimed right at the dance floor .
Complier miche says: “I’m so happy to have been able to officially license this sublime gospel cover of ‘As’ by Julius Brockington and his band, The Family Tree. Many people will automatically think of the Family Tree band that released an eponymous disco anthem, but this is a different Family Tree out of Baltimore, Maryland. I met Julius’ daughter last year and we both agreed that this version needed to be a part of the With Love series. I have been playing this on dancefloors across Europe for years, it is tried and tested! Being the last track on ‘With Love Volume 2’, it reflects how every proper party should end… with Stevie Wonder.”
By the way, ‘As’ is the second single to be lifted from ‘With Love 2’. The first (and still available) was Alice Cohen & Fun City’s ‘Save The Best ‘Til Last’ – an old school, joyous dance groove, worth checking.
Mr Bongo’s ‘With Love 2’ (above) drops October 6th on vinyl, CD and digital formats
