JIMMY’S STARTING TONIGHT!

JIMMY “BO” HORNE is a real soul veteran. Born in Florida in 1949, he was prolific in the 70s working with top soul labels like Alston and Sunshine Sounds (a subsidiary of TK), Amongst his biggest hits are ‘Dance Across the Floor’ (1978), ‘Spank’, ‘Gimme Some’, ‘Get Happy’, and ‘Let Me (Let Me Be Your Lover)’. Collectors also revere his ‘Clean Up Man’ – a tongue in cheek answer song to the Betty Wright classic!

Since his heyday, Jimmy worked in events management but now, it seems, he’s been tempted to make a musical comeback . Mr. H is now working with Groove Control Recordings and we’re told there’s an album in the pipeline. In the meantime, Jimmy and Groove control have just released a taster single – ‘Starting Tonight’.

It’s a hugely, rhythmic, percussive affair and Jim’s lost none of his soulful attack, vim and vigour. There’s bags of energy here  and it’s all topped with feisty,  femme BVs and a honking, old school sax break. The lyric’s interesting too – they speak of social change and inspiration with but it’s the feel good groove that’ll grab you by the you know whats!
