Latest release from Philadelphia  retro label, SOCIETY HILL RECORDS is a 6 track EP from Philly veteran soul man, JIMI WILLIAMS. Jimi works with a vocal group called Tru and we’re told that he was “related” to Billy Paul (whose real name, you’ll remember, was Paul Williams)!

Jimi enjoys occasional solo forays and, on this EP, ‘I Could Use A Little Love’ he delivers some classic  old, school Philly soul – and no surprise then, that one of the focus cuts is a cover of ‘Me And Mrs. Jones’. This new treatment doesn’t stray too far from the original and why would it? This is Philly retro after all.

Indeed, the other 5 tracks deliver the same sweet, sophisticated, harmony soul that the City of Brotherly Love became famous for. On things like ‘You Were Meant For Me’ (a duet with an unnamed female singer), ‘Make Love Easy’ and the EP title track you’ll hear shades of groups like Blue Magic, the Spinners et al and if that’s your thing, you’ll want to investigate.

The music and production comes courtesy of the Ingram Brothers with BVs from Carla Benson, Sharon Ingram and Nikita Harmon. We’re assuming it’s one of them on the aforementioned duet.
