THE SOUL SEEDERS are a French soul and funk band currently working on a new album – ‘Honey’ – due in October! You might know them from their work with Carlton Jumel Smith.
While we wait, you can sample what this big band (below) can do via the set’s lead single, ‘Gentleman Jealous Type’. The song tells the story of a woman’s realization: the jealousy of her companion, reputed to be a “gentleman”, transforms the life of this couple into real hell. Yep, it’s a feminist song but unlike much of that genre it’s not sombre, introspective or melancholic. No, this is big, brash and totally “up” with a real old school Northen soul vibe! Think maybe the feisty music of Ann Peebles!
The tough lead vocal’s down to Lucie Haddad while the track features blistering brass work. We heartily recommend investigation.
