“THE STANCE BROTHERS” is the musical alias for Finnish drummer/producer Teppo Makynen and under that moniker he’s released several singles and his ‘Duktus’ album. His unusual take on jazz has won praise from tastemakers like Kenny Dope and Gilles Peterson.
If you’re intrigued, he/they have a new 7” single out right now – ‘Sao Paolo’ b/w ‘Timmy’ via We Jazz Records. ‘Sao Paolo’ originally appeared on the ‘Duktus’ album and despite the title it doesn’t really have a Latin flavour – rather, an intriguing Bob James feel with a little more percussion – well Makynen (known to his fans as “Teddy Rok”) is a drummer! ‘Timmy’, by the way, is previously unreleased.
