Soul radio listeners will be delighted to know that dear old JAZZ FM is back! The station that did so much to bring soul and jazz to fans starved by the mainstream broadcasters is now available on digital radio in London, the North West, the West Midlands, Glasgow, East Scotland and South Wales (also on Sky, Freesat and www.jazzfm.com). The original JAZZ FM, of course, was taken over by the Guardian Media Group who quickly processed it into the dire blancmange that is Smooth Radio. Well, many of the original JAZZ FM back-room people have decided it was time to resurrect the brand and their schedules are filled with familiar names, including RALPH TEE, STEVE QUIRKE, PETE YOUNG and ROBBIE VINCENT and it’s also good to know that the team will be issuing those lovely compilation albums again. The first – compiled by STEVE QUIRK and RALPH TEE – is out at the end of October and it’s a delicious mix of soul and smooth – jazz old and new.
